Thelma & Louise driving off the cliff at the end
F R O M THELMA & LOUISE (1991)
This is such a tragic ending for this duo, but it does relay a very important message about the plight of women when it comes to the
issue of rape. For these two women, played by Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis, they realize there's no other answer than to
drive off the cliff and end their lives. They know no one will believe their story, after Louise had shot and killed a man who was
trying to rape Thelma. They went on the run, and this road movie is a classic and tragic story, directed by Ridley Scott in a film
of beautiful cinematography. Instead of facing jail for the murder of a piece of scum, they finally end this whole nightmare. The
scene is shot so that we do not have to see the death of these two legendary women -- as the car goes over the cliff, the image freezes on their
car. It's a tragic and sad ending for a powerful and important film experience.
