The final sword fight
F R O M
ROB ROY (1995)

Throughout the history of cinema, there have been numerous times we've seen sword fights. But none have been quite as real, tense, and well choreographed as this final swordfight sequence from ROB ROY, where Liam Neeson and Tim Roth fight to the death. What makes this particular swordfight sequence unique is that it's shot with no rousing music. Instead we hear nothing but the clash of the swords, and the heavy breathing of the two men. As mentioned before, the sequence is also brilliantly choreographed and shot -- the fight has peaks of continuous fighting, followed by the two stopping and regrouping. During these times, we see the reactions on each of their faces as they stare each other down. Finally, Roy Macgregor triumphs, and the sequence deserves to be remembered for its unique way of portraying a swordfight, when we thought we had seen it all.
