Meryl Streep having to choose which of her children will have to die
This is indeed one of the most heart-wrenching pieces of cinema ever experienced. And it's due in no small part to Meryl Streep's performance as a Polish woman undergoing the worst hell imaginable in World War II. It's the Holocaust, and Streep is a prisoner with her two children in a concentration camp, and she has to make the toughest decision any mother would have to make -- one of her children has to be taken away to be killed, and in a scene of pure heartbreak, she painfully decides to let one live by giving up her daughter to die. They take her daughter away and we are completely shocked. It still remains one of the most haunting pieces of cinema I've seen in a long time. |
